when i was heard this word,it made me think that, that's the rule of thumb means.its just like an action which made me laugh whether I help a certain person in a accident or just laugh at him/her.
on the other people's insight i look like an evil because i didn't help him/her.but if you are in my place what will you do, if suddenly you saw what happened.just laugh or what...for me i don't know...hahaha

opinion---Freedom of expression

The freedom of expression tells us that we are free from whatever actions, expression and routines we made, because no one can dictate us and its because we are free. We are born in this world and we are given freedom. We have our freedom but we need also to limit it.this freedom of expression, expresses what is in our mind, heart and soul.The way we expresses our feelings makes us more comfortable.Its nice to that we express our freedom of expression. I observe that i am also a keen observer, i usually observe people who are walking then after that I am criticizing them. I don't know why but, that's the way how I observe people in my surroundings.

----this is a great blog by ella. I want to see all the people who involve on this story face to face, their are not
responsible to their responsibility as an employee in the government. they are not helping
the people who are affected in the calamity. is the word she uttered "wala kasing volunteer"
is that worth? i don't think so.what if they sacrifice themselves to become a volunteer,
what if they distributed it in the places who are affected or they just approach the leaders of the organization
as soon as possible, there are a lot of people there,that can be paid of, what are the donations are for?
is it for the people who suffers or it will be placed in their packet?

there are a lot of people who needs the relief goods, but then it was stock in the warehouses,
what are they doing, they just wait for the volunteers? come on, its their job serve and help
the people who are in need, who are suffering.I just saw a while ago, the donations came from other
countries, I thank them for all the donations they gave, but sad to say almost all of their donations
are not given to the victims of the calamity.now I know how irresponsible DSWD is as we thought they are leaders
but its not.

i just wonder why they considered that the blog of ella was wrong? but for me, i agree with what ella had done because in her own little ways she expresses her feelings, what she had done is good,posting the pictures she got inside the warehouses, even she cut the doors during the transaction, she think that, those are the only way to get evidences on the donations which are not supposed to be stocked inside the warehouses, at least the things that she does helped the people who are affected on the calamity and some of the relief goods are already distributed to those in need by the help of her group

Is every action that is legal also ethical? can you describe an action that is legal but ethically wrong? is every ethical action also legal? is the law not ethics? the only guide that business managers need to consider.

For me, no, because i can say that in the first place, the action we possess or the action we intended to others are good but then for the others sight its bad,just for example smoking.
we all know that smoking is dangerous to our health and it is deadly because there are a lot of people who died with smoke.Also using marijuana, in other countries it is legal for them just because this marijuana is used for medicine purposes only, but in our country it is not, it is probihited because it is also harmful to our body and it can cause addiction.Abortion is pro-life and it is against the will of god, being a combination of beliefs on its morality, and beliefs on the responsibility, ethical scope, and proper extent of governmental authorities and policy.

For me yes, it is possible for an employee to be successful in the workplace without acting ethically because first of all, before the employee enters in the work he or she must undergo training to know the rules which includes the does and dont's and regulations of the company, but there's a certain consequence or fault to the company if the employee will become successful in the workplace without acting ethically theres a tendence that the corporation or the company he or she belongs to will suffer.

Ethics and Morality

Ethics is concerned with what is right or wrong, good or bad, fair or unfair, responsible or irresponsible, obligatory or permissible, praiseworthy or blameworthy. It is associated with guilt, shame, indignation, resentment, empathy, compassion, and care. It is interested in character as well as conduct. It addresses matters of public policy as well as more personal matters. On the one hand, it draws strength from our social environment, established practices, law, religion, and individual conscience. On the other hand, it critically assesses each of these sources of strength. So, ethics is complex and often perplexing and controversial. It defies concise, clear definition. Yet, it is something with which all of us, including young children, have a working familiarity.

This makes ethics sound like morality. This is intentional on our part. Like most contemporary texts, ours will treat ethics and morality as roughly synonymous. This is in keeping with the etymology of the two words. Moral derives from the Latin word moralis. Moralis was a term that ancient Roman philosopher Cicero made up to translate the ancient Greek ethikos into Latin. Both mean, roughly, pertaining to character; but today their English derivatives deal with much more than character.

It is tempting to seek a general definition of ethics before discussing any particular ethical topic. Although we have said a little bit about what we take ethics to be, we have not offered such a definition; and we will not do so. Demanding a definition at the outset can stifle discussion as easily as it can stimulate it. We offer one of Plato's dialogues as a case in point.

In the Euthyphro we find Socrates and Euthyphro meeting each other on the way to court. Socrates is being tried allegedly for corrupting the youth by encouraging them to believe in "false gods" and for making the better argument appear the worse. Euthyphro is setting out to prosecute his father allegedly for murdering one of his servants. Socrates expresses surprise that Euthyphro would prosecute his own father, and he asks him for an explanation. Euthyphro appeals to the justice of doing this. Socrates then asks him to define justice. Euthyphro offers some examples of justice and injustice. Socrates rejects them all on the grounds that they are only examples, whereas what he wants Euthyphro to tell him is what all just acts have in common that makes them just. That is, what Socrates demands is a definition that captures the essence of justice in all of its instances. Unfortunately, Euthyphro attempts to satisfy Socrates' demand rather than challenge its reasonableness. All of his efforts fail miserably, and the dialogue ends with Euthyphro indicating he must leave to get on with his business. The implication is that Euthyphro is going off to prosecute his father without the least grasp of the value in which name he is acting, justice.

As much as we might desire the sort of definition Socrates and Euthyphro were seeking, it seems an unreasonable demand. At best, this might come at the end of an inquiry rather than at its beginning. Morality, like science, should allow room for piecemeal exploration and discovery. It should not be necessary to provide a comprehensive definition of justice in order to be able to say with confidence that sometimes drawing lots is a just procedure, having the person who cuts the pie get the last piece is just, compensating people for the work they do is just, denying women the right to vote is unjust, punishing the innocent is unjust, and so on. Further reflection might reveal special features these examples all have in common, or at least special ways of grouping them. But having a solid starting point does not require having a well worked out definition of the concept under consideration.

18^th century philosopher Thomas Reid has some useful advice for those interested in developing a systematic understanding of morality. He compares a system of morals to "laws of motion in the natural world, which, though few and simple, serve to regulate an infinite variety of operations throughout the universe." However, he contrasts a system of morals with a system of geometry.A system of morals is not like a system of geometry, where the subsequent parts derive their evidence from the preceding, and one chain of reasoning is carried on from the beginning; so that, if the arrangement is changed, the chain is broken, and the evidence is lost. It resembles more a system of botany, or mineralogy, where the subsequent parts depend not for their evidence upon the preceding, and the arrangement is made to facilitate apprehension and memory, and not to give evidence.

Reid's view has important implications for how we should characterize moral development. On the botanical model, access to basic moral understanding need not be an all or nothing affair. Its range and complexity can be a matter of degree, and confusion in one area need not infect all others. Understanding how different, basic moral considerations are related to one another can be a matter for discovery (and dispute) without our having to say that those whose picture is incomplete, or somewhat confused have no understanding of basic moral concepts.
